Alumni Info Needed

August 18th, 2008

HEY EVERYONE!  I’m putting a list together of some very brief information on all the UTAJAZZ exes. I’ve mailed it to all the addresses I currently have and received more than 40 responses in just two days.  If you aren’t on the UTAJAZZ Exes mailing list,  just email me at utajazz@suddenlink.net and I’ll add your name and info.  Remember, this alumni group has no meetings, no rules, no bylaws,  no dues, no nothin’ except some continued good fellowship.  Write to me today.  Remember, the reunion this year is on Sunday Oct. 12 at UTA Irons Hall.  Hope to see you there.

UTA Jazz Annual Alumni Concert

October 13th, 2007

An Annual  Jazz Scholarship Fundraising Event
Sunday,  October 28, 2007
Irons Hall,  7 PM

Featuring the UTA Jazz Alumni Big Band
The 2007  UTA Jazz Orchestra

Admission charge: a donation in ANY AMOUNT
Reception following concert

Most of the people reading this benefited from the jazz scholarship fund.  Scores of recipients received some amount of jazz scholarship money to help defray the costs of their education. Others were able to play in an ensemble with fine players who were enticed to come to UTA, in part, because of the availability of a scholarship assistance.  Now is your chance to show your appreciation and to help insure that the legacy you helped build will remain vibrant for years to come.  If you cannot attend the concert and reception, please consider sending a tax-deductible donation IN ANY AMOUNT to:

Tim Ishii,  Dir. of Jazz Studies
UTA Music Dept.
Box 19105
Arlington, Texas

Make checks payable to UTAJAZZ and be sure to write “scholarship donation” on the check.

PLEASE SEND DONATION TODAY and REMEMBER, YOUR DONATION IS AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR LEGACY.

Where are you now?

I thought it would be cool if each of you let everyone know what you’re up to, where you are, how many licks you know, etc.  I’ll start in the comments below.

Alumni Concert and Other Items

September 12th, 2007

JO exes,

  1. Thanks to Tim Ishii and Dan Cavanagh, we’ve just added another 40 names to the JO exes memebership.
  2. The third annual Jazz Alumni scholarship concert to be held on Oct. 28, 2007.
  3. The UTAJO will be performing at TMEA this year. more details later
  4. Tim, Dan and I would like to organize a get-together for UTAJAZZ EX educators at TMEA this year. We were thinking we might meet at the bar in the Hilton an hour before the college receptions on Friday night. Add your comments to this post if you’re up for that.
  5. There has been a suggestion that we honor a past alum at each future jazz alumni scholarship concert. Any ideas on criteria, etc. is appreciated. Again, post your thoughts below.

Welcome

September 10th, 2007

It’s my pleasure to welcome all current and former members of the University of Texas at Arlington Jazz program to OUR blog site. This site was orginated by Josh Brown, a former UTAJO member and outstanding bass trombonist.. If you have not already joined the UTA JAZZ EXES organization, please send an email to utajazz@suddenlink.net to be added to the list. And remember, there are no dues, no annual fees, no meetings, no bylaws, no nothin’—-just good cyber fellowship among UTAJAZZ friends and participants. We do have one scholarship fundraising event which is coming up on October 28, 2007. More on this later.

Since this is the initial flight of this blog site, I am sure there will be more tweaking required as we progress. When you post comments, please begin your first comment by stating the last semester you attended UTA. Remember, our 150+ membership spans a period of more than 60 years of particiapnts in the program, and this date (e.g., ‘47, ‘83, ‘06 whatever) will give all of us a better idea of when you were in school. So let’s get started. But remember, be kind.

Again, write to utajazz@suddenlink.net to join the UTAJAZZ EXES organization.

Bill Snodgrass (’76-’04)
